Today’s Expo visitors exceeded 1 million by 6pm, pushing Expo’s total visitor number over 64.59 million. It means that World Expo Shanghai has broken single day visitor number record of 835,832 and total visitor number record of 64.22 million – both set by Expo Osaka in 1970.

The Expo Site adopted extreme crowd contingency plans and the operation of the Expo Site was generally smooth. The latest extreme crowd contingency plan was drafted at end of September and beginning of October.

The number of visitors entering World Expo Shanghai today reached 633,500 at 11:38am, refreshing record of 631,200 on September 23. At the same time total visitors’ number reached 64.2219 million, smashing Osaka’s total visitor record.

The visitors keep pouring into Expo Site. Visitor volume exceeded 800,000 near 1pm. It surpassed 900,000 near 3pm.

The Expo organisers strived to move the traffic in the site, keep pavilions in good order and provide enough food to feed visitors. Tourists’ feedback is generally good.

When Expo crowd exceeded 700,000 today, Expo organisers advised visitors to choose another day to visit Expo 2010 through its official Website (expo2010.cn), hotline 962010, TV and radio stations and mobile phone text messages.

At Expo Site gates, security check teams have been increased to meet the demand of Expo crowd. Up to 266,800 of Expos visitors entered the Site from 9am to 10am in today’s first open hour of the Site.

Float parade has been canceled all day.

Twenty more public vehicles were put into bus fleet inside Expo Site. Bus management personnel was boosted from 200 to 300. Ferries and bus trips were both increased and their operation time extended.

Six kilometers of new queuing barriers were put into use at popular pavilions. Expo workers have been deployed at the ends of lengthy lines at some pavilions to tell potential visitors that the queuing here has already stopped because the current line was too long.

All queuing barriers have been checked and solidified. Temporary toilets have been added to popular pavilions areas. Drinking taps and chairs were cleaned more often. Expo cleaners fastened garbage clearance in dining and queuing areas.

More goods have been supplied to the Expo stores in Expo Site. Short messaging service, LED screen and loudspeakers have been guiding visitors to less crowded dining sites. More tables and take-outs have been added to restaurants. Food carts have been moved to outer areas of the Expo Site to avoid drawing crowds into central areas.

Boiled water has been offered at visitor service stations. Visitors have been advised to behave more orderly.
