On May 2-5, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao paid a visit to Germany, and China and Germany proclaimed a joint statement. The German government promised to insist on a clear one-China policy, support the peaceful reunification of China, and oppose the “Taiwan Independence” as well as any activities that aim at intensifying the situation in the Taiwan Straits.
