The Universiade theme song, entitled "Start Here," was released July 13 at a grand celebration at the Universiade stadium in Longgang District, to mark the 30-day countdown to the opening of the Games.

Featuring a combination of slow and fast tempos, the song stood out from more than 800 original songs reviewed since 2008.

"The theme song reflects the city"s image and the spirit of the Universiade," said Wang Suiming, the city"s deputy Party chief, at yesterday"s celebrations.

In addition, a total of 31 songs had been selected by experts and through online votes, Wang said.

Yesterday"s celebrations featured cultural performances and was attended by hundreds of people involved in Games organizations, including medical care, voluntary service and security.

"We are ready" was repeated by volunteers, venue staff and residents.

"Although we have been trained and gained some experience through a series of tests, the real challenge is coming with the Games only 30 days away," said Chen Jie, who is from the Shenzhen College of Tourism of Jinan University.

"However, we are confident of giving our best during the Games, conveying the voluntary spirit and better projecting Shenzhen as a city of volunteers," said Chen.

Han Xingyuan, director of the Games venue operations center, said it took only four months to complete the training and testing of 52 venue operations teams.

"We are ready to provide the best service during the Games," said Han.

The Games venues are to be sealed later this month.

City Party chief, Wang Rong, expressed gratitude to all the people involved in Games preparations and called on more residents to become involved.

"I"m here calling on motorists to use public transport during the Games for a better environment and smooth traffic," said Wang.
