SINGAPORE: Singapore's health ministry said Wednesday that it has issued quarantine orders on 70 people who may have come into contact with a Taiwanese SARS patient.
The Singaporean Ministry of Health said in a statement that the70 people may have been exposed to SARS (the severe acute respiratory syndrome) through contact with a Taiwanese researcher who visited Singapore on Dec. 7-10.
The 44-year-old male researcher was confirmed to have been tested positive for SARS on Wednesday and the laboratory he works was closed down temporarily.
The 70 people were requested undergo home quarantine until Dec.19 and will be monitored three times a day by telephone, the statement said.
The ministry also urged all medical practitioners, hospitals, national medical centers, and clinics to "step up their vigilance against SARS," the statement said.
