VIENNA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- In his introductory statement at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors' meeting opened on Monday, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano urged Iran to further cooperate with the agency in solving the Iranian nuclear dispute.

In his speech, he demanded Iran to fully implement the Non- Proliferation Treaty (NPT) safeguards agreement and its other obligations, including its Additional Protocol.

He also pointed out: "Iran has not provided the necessary cooperation to permit the agency to confirm that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities."

He stressed, the necessary cooperation includes implementation of relevant resolutions of the IAEA Board of Governors and the UN Security Council, implementation of the Additional Protocol, as well as clarification of issues related to possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program.

With regard to the agreement signed last month between Iran, Turkey and Brazil, in which some low enriched uranium was sent abroad to be processed into high-enriched uranium as nuclear fuel for Iran's research reactor, Amano said he is still awaiting the responses of France, Russia and the U.S., and will continue to consult with all concerned parties on this matter.

During this 5-day IAEA board of governors' meeting, the Iranian nuclear issue became a hot issue. The nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Syrian Arab Republic will be also discussed at the meeting.

In addition, the issue on "Israeli nuclear capabilities" raised by the Arab States will also be discussed as a hotspot of this meeting.

Israel has neither admitted nor denied its possession of nuclear weapons. This position in particular caused the Arab countries' strong anxiety and discontent.
