TIANJIN-- Chairman of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) Chiang Pin-kung called on Taiwanese businesspeople to operate legally on the mainland before ending his three-day visit in Tianjin and leaving for Taiwan Friday afternoon.

On Friday morning, Chiang met with representatives of Taiwanese businesspeople, calling on them to abide by laws and regulations while doing business in the mainland and give back to society once their businesses prosper.

Chiang also praised the local government for its work in protecting the rights and interests of Taiwan's businesspeople.

Chiang and his delegation arrived in the mainland's northern city of Tianjin on Wednesday for the seventh round of talks with his mainland counterpart Chen Yunlin.

During their talks, the two sides signed an agreement on cross-Strait cooperation in nuclear power safety. They also agreed to accelerate the negotiation process for an investment protection agreement, and to sign the agreement during their next talks.

They also reached a consensus on measures to boost cross-Strait industrial cooperation.

"It's a common wish to live in peace and plenty, so we hope people on both sides bear this in mind and make more contributions to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations," said Chiang.

Chen Yunlin, president of the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), said that the seventh round of talks between the two sides concluded successfully and will bring about benefits for cross-Strait relations.
