STOCKHOLM -- "Stockholm is safe and no-one needs to worry about visiting or staying in the city", said Stockholm Mayor at a press conference on Thursday at city hall.

As riots in Sweden ebbed, social stability regained recently. Mayor of Stockholm Sten Nordin made his first pubic statement to international press, for lessons learned from such crisis management.

He said, the civil unrest, started on 19 May and has been happening at nights in some of Stockholm's suburbs has not disturbed normal city operations. And staffs in the affected areas are working closely with the districts' youth centers and with the local citizens over all to offer support and services as usual.

The mayor stressed the importance of making sure that people's every-day life can go on despite the unrest, and the value of having a close cooperation with police and the local community.

Recalling recent control work on riots around Stockholm city area, the City's Chief Security Officer Patrick Ahnberg told Xinhua that "the biggest challenge to this riot was that it was spreading so fast." And he expressed confidence for maintaining a stable situation in Stockholm in future.

During Thursday's press briefing, the city's CEO Irene Svenonius also outlined Stockholm's short and long-term priorities, including building better communications between local communities and authorities, and implementing policies for better social integration.

"I think this is the most important thing we can do -- getting them (youths) optimistic for the future, getting a good education and getting a good job," Svenonius told Xinhua.

According to Stockholm City's government report, no people died during this year's riots. However, about 150 cars were burnt, and four schools around Stockholm city were also burnt, one of which, totally destroyed. Among roughly 300 youth participated in the riots, 50 has been arrested, pending further investigation.
