Celebrated cellist Mischa Maisky has paid his third visit to the Beijing Music Festival on Sunday evening at the Poly Theatre, performing Schumann's "Cello Concerto in A Minor'' with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Russian-born Maisky is a prize winner at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1966 and commenced studies with Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory.
Rostropovich has lauded Maisky as "one of the most outstanding talents of the younger generation of cellists. His playing combines poetry and exquisite delicacy with great temperament and brilliant technique.''
The Beijing concert is part of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra's first tour of Asia, which will also see it perform at the Shanghai Grand Theatre this Tuesday, as well as in South Korea.
