HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed higher Thursday with the weighted index up 34.85 points, or 0.43 percent, to close at 8,128.51, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

The local bourse fluctuated between 8,095.70 and 8,139.49 during the day's trading. Turnover totaled 86.77 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.93 billion U.S. dollars).
