HONG KONG -- An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted Taiwan at 03:36:47 GMT on Thursday (11:36: 47 Hong Kong Time), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 9.60 km, was initially determined to be at 24.2678 degrees north latitude and 121.4284 degrees east longitude.
